Queensday is the biggest Dutch party day of the year, it's always held on the 30th of April. The reason why it's called Queensday is because it was the ex Queen Julianas birthday.

Everyone dresses up in Organge, since that is the last name of the Royal family. Everyone is allowed to sell whatever they want......when it comes to things....so there are some restrictions when it comes to food and drink. Children sell old toys or arrange games that people have to pay for to try. Or they sell lemonade or performe dance performances etc. For the adults there are concerts all over the country, beer tents and in our village the have things like jack russel raceses and horse and carriage "games". It is a lot of fun, even if it is bad weather people smile :)

Lovely, thanks to Queensday and Himmelvard we have had a long weekend together at home. We'll we have been out on the streets celebrating with the rest of the Dutch population and tourists that come over to celebrate as well. The weather has been great and the boys have been playing a lot outside, we have a small sandpit and they manage to squees themselves and all their "sand" toys in there. They both shared an ice cream today for the first time, and they REALLY liked it!

Julia our fantastic neigbour and babysitter is a great horse rider and now and then she brings Hugo along. As you can se on the photos below Diederik wanted to ride as well and Julia held on tight as they made a small round on the grass outside our garden. Although next time I'll make sure to have a helmet at hand.
